What Are The Benefits Of Repurposing A Wine Rack?

These days we are all trying to be more environmentally friendly and by taking an object you no longer need and making it into something you do, you are not only saving money but you are also contributing to helping to reduce landfill and general energy waste.  It’s also a great point of difference and can be a real conversation starter when your friends see what you have done.

If you want to make a stand against our throw away society then finding another use for that no longer loved wine rack can be a good start. So, without further ado, here are 10 other uses for wine racks:

Eco-friendly Ways To Upcycle A Wine Rack

1. Display Cabinet

Do you have a collection you would like to show off? Well, the square bottle spaces in a wine rack make a perfect back drop to show off your prized items. You could even paint it for a more dramatic effect.

2. Abstract Art

If your wine rack is one of the more interesting designs outhere – how about letting it take centre stage on your living room wall for some eye-catching, abstract art.  3d design adds a real sense of style to any home and it’s sure to be unique.

What to do:

  1. Take the picture frame wall fixing and screw to the back of the wine rack.
  2. Position the rack on the wall and mark where to fix with a pencil.
  3. Using the hammer and nails affix to the wall.
  4. Stand back and admire

3. Garden planter

One for the avid gardeners. A discarded wire wine rack makes a great garden planter and will make a design statement on your patio for sure.

What you will need:

  • Wire wine rack
  • Ruler
  • Terracotta pots
  • Compost
  • Plants

What to do:

  1. Measure the size of the rack holes with a ruler
  2. Purchase the correct size plant pots
  3. Lie the rack on its side in your preferred space
  4. Fill each pot about 2/3rd full of compost.
  5. Gently plant out your favourite plants and water in

4. Jumbo Spice Rack

How about turning that no longer used wine rack into a jumbo spice holder.  By slotting glass jars into the bottle spaces you can keep them all in one place without having to decant. Make some funky labels for the lids and you’ll be cooking in no time.

What you will need

  • Zig-zag or similar wine rack
  • Pencil
  • Picture frame wall fixing
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Raw plugs
  • Screws
  • Jam jars with lids
  • Labels
  • Felt tip pen

What to do

  • Affix the picture frame fixings to the back of the wine rack using the screwdriver
  • Mark where you wish to site the rack on the wall with a pencil
  • Using a drill, make holes big enough for the raw plugs
  • Screw the rack to the wall
  • Write labels for your favourite spices and stick on the lids of the jam jars
  • Fill jars with spices or herbs and place in rack

5. Craft Supplies Storage

If you like crafting you will know what a mess all that yarn can get into.  Consider using your discarded wine rack as a place to organise your wool – if you colour co-ordinate it it will look beautiful too.

What you will need:

  • Wire wine rack
  • Ruler
  • Terracotta pots
  • Compost
  • Plants

What to do:

  1. Measure the size of the rack holes with a ruler
  2. Purchase the correct size plant pots
  3. Lie the rack on its side in your preferred space
  4. Fill each pot about 2/3rd full of compost.
  5. Gently plant out your favourite plants and water in

6 Magazine Rack

Keep all your favourite titles close at hand by repurposing a wall mounted wine rack in a different space in your home – bathroom maybe?

7 Socks or Scarves Organiser

If you are a neat freak (or aspire to be) and of course, keep all your socks in pairs.  A re-purposed wine rack can be a good storage solution and you can see at a glance where your lucky socks are.

8 Towel Holder

Wine racks come in a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic, so they can easily be coordinated with other bathroom accessories.

This ingenious design hack is ideal for small bathrooms with limited storage space. Simply hang a wine rack on the wall or if you prefer leave it standing and use it to store rolled-up towels. Not only will this save space, but it will also add a touch of class to your bathroom decor.

9 Handbag Holder

We all love a clutch bag and with some striking designs around using a wine rack to store them also makes a decorative statement.

10 Loo Roll Holder

Always a good idea to have a spare at hand.  By re-purposing a table top wine rack you’ll never go short.

Hopefully, you’ve been able to find some new life for your old wine rack.  After all, when you have spent time and money sourcing the coolest wine rack it seems a shame to discard it if you no longer wish to use it for storing wine.  Have fun upcycling.
